What is Componecat?
A software catalog: a registry of the systems, services and libraries your organization runs, nested into parents and children and joined by relationships such as dependencies. Each entry has an owning team, its own documentation, API endpoint definitions and repository links. Your team browses it in the app, and AI agents read it over MCP.
How do AI coding agents use it?
Through the built-in MCP server at https://app.componecat.ai/api/mcp, listed in the MCP registry. VS Code and Cursor install it in one click, and Claude Code, ChatGPT and other MCP clients connect with OAuth. An agent can search the catalog, read an entity in full, follow its relationships and run impact analysis before it changes code. See connecting AI agents.
Can I give an agent read-only access?
Yes. Access is granted read or write per resource (catalog entities, teams, schema, wiki), and a token can be limited further. An agent only sees the tools its grant allows, so a read-only agent is never offered the editing tools.
How does the catalog stay current?
Commit a componecat.yaml descriptor next to the code. Repository scanning finds descriptors across your GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket organizations on a schedule and re-ingests one on every push. Team sync mirrors owners from GitHub, GitLab, Atlassian or Microsoft 365. Integrations come with Pro and Enterprise.
Can it show what breaks if I change a service?
Yes. Impact analysis walks the dependency graph from any entity and returns its blast radius, upstream, downstream or both. It is in the app and available to agents over MCP.
How much does it cost?
Free covers up to 5 users and 50 catalog entities, with the MCP server included. Basic is $20 a month for up to 20 users, and Pro, at $100 a month, adds integrations, outgoing webhooks, service accounts and single sign-on. See pricing.
